The First United Methodist Church in Burlington, Iowa hired K/O to historically rework their sanctuary and consult on historic interior/exterior repair issues. The original turn of the century gathering space was compromised by a 1960s remodeling that left the space functional and historically inaccurate. The detail of the original choir loft rail was replicated in the new removable communion rail. The carpet used on the sanctuary floor was custom created from a historic swatch that was recovered and believed to be the original wool carpet from the turn of the century building. Historic painting was also recreated accenting the beautiful stained glass windows. Other renovation elements included: plaster, millwork, masonry, and mortar.
