As part of preparation for the Fair’s centennial the Clay County Fair choose to take on a site-wide Planning effort and facility improvement push. One of the projects that rose to the top during the planning process was the construction of a new plaza at the location of the recently removed Agriculture Building. The initial plan was to bid out the project in phases.
The name settled on for the new venue was Centennial Plaza. The premise is to create a park like setting around a new area of outdoor commercial vendors as well as provide nearby space for a free entertainment stage. Two entry structures will be located on the far east and west portions of the path, these will define the limits of the site. Benches, trees, and planters will surround the pathways encouraging people to linger in the new outdoor space. Vendor spaces will align the edges of the main walkways, and larger commercial vendors will be allowed to rent enclosed space under the new entry buildings.
