The Kansas State Fair hired K/O to lead a facility–wide planning effort that will spread a series of improvements across all corners of their grounds. The facilities have done very well but have struggled in recent years to balance general maintenance items while trying to create an image that will continue to increase attendance and allow the venue to thrive. A focus of the Plan was placed on developing a vision that not only enhances the annual fair but bolsters the year-round viability of the grounds. The main piece of this plan rests on the creation of a “Pride of Kansas” boulevard that connects the main entry gate with the main west and north parking areas.
Other elements of the plan include the eventual removal of the 1/2 mile track and expansion of the equestrian and entertainment areas – allowing the fair to host larger concerts and outdoor events.
