The St. Ambrose Rectory houses the leadership of the Diocese of Des Moines and is one component of the St. Ambrose Cathedral campus in Des Moines’ central business district. K/O was selected to lead this project due to their extensive historical preservation background.
Constructed in 1927, the rectory is a three–story brick and stone Romanesque Revival/Gothic Revival building listed on the National Historical Register. Exhibiting internal gutters, an aging slate roof and deteriorating masonry mortar, K/O coordinated an investigative search to identify locations where water was infiltrating the historical structure. Furthermore, K/O provided detailing and construction oversight for this complex project.
New roofing, gutters and masonry repointing constituted the majority of the work, which has resulted in the near century old building being once again secure from the elements and continue to function as a vital and beautiful structure for the Diocese.
